The setting

A ground-floor suite in a brick-and-glass medical office building in Torrance, set on landscaped grounds with mature trees and a water feature. Floor-to-ceiling glass pulls the greenery into nearly every patient-facing room.

The concept

A surgery center that doesn't announce itself as one. The design leads with warmth — wood-slat walls, a live olive tree, a glowing curved reception desk — and lets the clinical program recede behind frosted glass, so the first impression is calm rather than procedure.

Materials & palette

White-oak slat walls and warm wood ceilings against a crisp white envelope, with pale plank flooring running throughout. The curved reception desk floats on a ribbon of concealed underglow; restrooms pair large-format stone-look tile with backlit mirrors and pendant lighting. Frosted glass carries the circular FACES mark at every threshold, and soft blue-green upholstery adds the only color.

The experience

Patients enter through a frosted-glass door bearing the practice mark into a wood-ceilinged lounge that looks onto trees, then consult in glass-walled corners facing the landscaped grounds. Treatment and imaging rooms keep the same white-and-oak language, and the path ends in a fully equipped operating room and a quiet recovery corner with a recliner beneath a slatted wood wall.
