What makes veterinary clinic design different
Species-aware planning
Separated dog and cat waiting, visual barriers, and low-stress patient flow informed by fear-free design principles.
Sound & smell control
Acoustic separation around wards and treatment, and finishes + ventilation planning that keep the clinic smelling clean.
Built for claws & cleaning
Non-slip, seamless, animal-proof surfaces that survive accidents and daily disinfection without feeling industrial.
Room for hard moments
A quiet comfort room, planned away from the busy core, gives families privacy for the hardest goodbyes.
Licensing & permitting in California
Practices in California are licensed through the Veterinary Medical Board of California. California requires a licensed contractor (CSLB) for the build, and tenant-improvement permits are issued by each city or county building department — so the path varies by jurisdiction. We design with the local plan-check and California's accessibility (CBC/ADA) requirements in mind from day one.

- Two numbers to plan: our interior design fee, and the construction budget you contract with a general contractor — we design; your GC builds. Construction varies with finish level, surgery and ward scope, and the base space. Our free cost estimator shows directional ranges for both.
- Acoustically, we isolate wards and treatment from the lobby and exam rooms with wall assemblies and door placement; for odor, we specify seamless cleanable surfaces and plan ventilation and drainage so the clinic smells like a well-run practice, not a kennel.
- Design choices that lower animal stress: separated dog and cat zones, visual barriers in waiting, non-slip floors, calm lighting, and exam rooms planned so pets aren't paraded past each other. Calmer patients mean safer handling and better visits.
- Usually, yes — we phase remodels around your schedule, working in zones or after hours, so you can keep seeing patients through construction wherever possible.
- Yes. A private comfort room with soft finishes, dimmable light, and a discreet exit path gives grieving families dignity — one of the most appreciated rooms we design.
